Of course children can read about and indeed watch films about different faiths.
But there is no doubt that an inspirational speaker, who is an active member of a faith and used to working with primary school children, can in one session transform the children’s understanding of a particular faith.
And there can also be no doubt that such an event can be of great long-term value. For time and again one can see that even a modest amount of personal knowledge can dispel ignorance and assumption, and instead encourage respect, leading to a more harmonious society.
With this in mind, Rabbi Douglas Charing, Director of the Leeds-based Jewish Education Bureau, has been visiting schools throughout the country for many years.
He offers lively and informative presentations on many aspects of Judaism, including Festivals such as Passover and Chanukah, and life-cycle events. Story and song are also included.
