What is the best way to ensure that your colleagues fully appreciate all the things that you do?

The notion of Special Needs Week is quite simple – to provide a focus and opportunity for anyone who wants it to find a way to let all your colleagues know just what you do and the issues you are facing.

And indeed, one option that we have heard from some schools is to take up a session on a CPD day to talk to colleagues about your work – and, if you wish, to use some of the statistics and data that are on the Special Needs Week site.

And from what we hear, it seems that the information on the site is being used when discussing with senior management the resources that are needed to meet all the demands you are facing.

I have also been contacted by a number of SENCos particularly thanking us for the list and brief details of 60+ special needs, which they have found really helpful. There have also been some nice comments about the research, which can put into context the level of demand that you are facing.

Also on our website is our review of meeting and managing parental expectations as opposed to waiting for parents to take the initiative; the results can be particularly beneficial for everyone.

And we have just added some further research (this time not undertaken by us) into the level of work that is being experienced by special needs departments around the country.

I do hope you find something of value on the Special Needs Week site.  But if there is something that you have looked for which we have not covered, please do write and let us know.

We are keen to keep adding data to the Special Needs Week site in the coming weeks and months, so if you let us know what you are looking for, we’ll do our level best to find it and publish it on the site.
