The more we inform, the more they support

What is the most effective way of encouraging parents to support their child’s reading at home?

One of the great problems with parents is that they remember their own primary school days and become confused when they see their children being taught to read in a different way.

Of course, many parents will recognise that education develops all the time and will readily support current methods, but some may feel slightly unsure about them.

Indeed the phrase, “It wasn’t like this in my day,” probably originates from a lack of awareness in which schooling changes.

In order to bring parents up to speed with contemporary literacy work in schools, Jolly Learning has produced a free Parent/Teacher Guide and an accompanying presentation on CD.

This guide is offered free to schools that want to hand out information to parents at parent evenings or as part of a pack of information supplied at the start of term. The guide deals with how parents can support their child’s learning at home while the presentation CD is used by teachers at the parents evening.

You can see a copy of the document (available in several languages) here and you can, of course, print copies and hand them out yourself.

Alternatively, just email me and I’ll arrange to send you as many printed copies as you think you will need.

If you would like to order copies of the Parent/Teacher Guide or to receive further information about our literacy programme please email info@jollylearning.co.uk and let me know:

a) your school name and postal address, and the email address of the person who will be overseeing the handing out of the leaflets,

b) and how many copies you wish to have.

If you have any questions please call us on 020 8501 0405.
