Is it possible to have 100% of pupils at Level 5 or above at the end of KS3 maths?

Is it possible to have 100% of pupils at Level 5 or above at the end of KS3 maths?

Nationally there were about 20% of pupils who were working below level 4 at the end of KS2. The Government has recently announced 20 hours of one-to-one support for the 30,000 least able children in KS1.

This scheme will cost about £2500 per child and will involve individual 30 minutes lessons for the lowest achievers. It will be delivered by specialist teachers and the programme will go nationwide in September 2010, linking with the previously announced One to One Tuition programme.

The pilot programme showed that even some of the weakest of pupils made progress to the required level. The recent study by Every Child a Chance Trust showed that children made an average of 15 months progress over three months with just 20 hours tuition.

One of the issues raised by these limited schemes is the training needed to implement a one-to-one support project. Our books enable anyone to provide one-to-one support that boosts maths progress. Many schools use our books with a peer buddy-system, with teaching assistants, volunteers or in conjunction with parents.

The main reasons why pupils make progress with our books are that they boost confidence and give a highly structured approach to learning maths. The books make sure pupils have mastered lower skills before moving on to higher level skills.

The book ‘Power of 2’ is probably the easiest way to boost students up to level 5. It covers all the mental maths required by the Numeracy Strategy. Our ‘Plus 1’ book boosts pupils to level 2, and our ‘Times Tables’ book takes an unusual twist on multiplication and division. Books cost from just £13.50.

We’re very happy for you to ask for an inspection copy of any (or all) of our books. Our website www.powerof2.co.uk has more details and you can also see our other maths resources, including our new online maths support program.

P.S. For a no-obligation inspection copy of ‘Power of 2’, get in touch by email, fax, post, via our website or phone 0115 919 3911. It’s probably the easiest way to boost students up to level 5.
