Changing the attitude of young people
What’s the most effective way of changing the attitude and vision of young people?
There are many pupils and students who could make much more of their schooling – if only they would take responsibility for their own lives.
The central problem is that many young people have negative attitudes, negative views and (as a result) negative habits.
So the question then arises: what is the most effective method of changing the way in which these young people see the world?
This is the problem that my colleagues and I have been working on for several years, considering the way in which different pupils see the world around them, and from there, the ways in which their vision can be changed.
As a result we’ve evolved a programme that challenges the ‘victim’ mentality and ‘whatever will be, will be’ attitudes that hinder the vision of some pupils.
SUMO4Schools programme is an innovative tool which helps learners to take responsibility for their learning and their lives. It equips them to change their attitudes and vision as well as develops their confidence, their self esteem and their self belief.
We’ve worked closely with Paul McGee, who has evolved the programme based on the aphorism “Shut Up, Move On” (SUMO for short). Paul will be running a session on 17 June, in Chigwell, Outer London, in which he explains his approach, and how and why it works so well.
