The PTA and the Governors
Sometimes I read an article, and it seems to me the best thing to do is simply to pass it on, in case you missed it.
This is the case with an article in the Guardian on the relationship between the governors and the PTA, and the fund raising situation of the PTA.
I was interested in the piece because a lot of it is given over to the National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations. What interested me about them was that for two years I was chair of a PTA in a school of around 1000 pupils. We were extremely active holding regular events – the largest of which would get around 800 to 1000 parents and friends into the school grounds during the course of the day.
At the start of my tenure as chair I had never heard of the NCPTA, and during those two years they didn’t contact me (although I am certain all the mail addressed to the PTA at the school was forwaded to me). I often wondered about this, because the NCPTA do put out their views, and I wonder how representative they are.
Anyway, that is rather by the way – the article is at http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/mar/31/parent-teacher-association
