Is there a good creative writing course for teachers?
Since I wrote a piece about a teacher who came up with the idea for a TV soap (for the English edition of Education Management News – details below) and now seems to have a company worth mega millions, I have been sent a number of pieces about creative writing courses and the like.
But it would be unreasonable not to pass one item on – this is from the Arvon Foundation. They call themselves “the UK’s leading creative writing organisation where people who write come together for one special week.”
What actually made me notice them was that they said in an email to me, “Our legendary courses are run by professional, published writers and we have grants for people who teach – because we know you’ll take what you learn back to the classroom.”
I liked that – “our legendary courses”. Good use of words. One extra point for creativity.
So, having got my interest, here’s the rest of their statement…
“As well as courses for everyone, we also run bespoke schools courses for you and your kids. Imagine Malorie Blackman or Carol Ann Duffy teaching your budding writers for a week!
“Afterwards they join our online space for kids, the Writing Room, which is very popular and gives young people the chance to discuss their writing in a safe and supportive space. For more information, visit www.arvonfoundation.org or call Ben about bringing your school to Arvon on 01422 843714.
